How To Carefully Remove Stains

What’s the greatest fear that all dress shirts lovers tend to have? Any guesses? The answer is “stains”. This is something that everyone dreads a lot. Imagine when you wear a spectacular and highly expensive dress shirt for a party; your behavior gets quite circumspect, you try to protect it as much as possible from getting stained.

But the ultimate truth is that stains are inevitable! No matter how much you prevent your shirt from getting stained, it eventually (and unfortunately) ends up getting stained one way or the other. Now the feeling can be downright exasperating! After all, it’s one of your valuable designer dress shirts.

Since there is no way of protecting your shirts from stains (unless you decide to put it in the wardrobe forever), it’s always good to possess adequate knowledge of different stains so that you can have them removed quickly so that they don’t leave a permanent mark. This also minimizes the possibility of the shirt getting stained indelibly.

On that note, here‘s a list of some of the most common stains you’ll come across and effective ways of dealing with them:

Coffee & Tea Stains

This is perhaps one of the most infuriating ones. How many times have you or someone else (even worse) mistakenly spilled coffee or tea on your costly dress shirt? Probably a number of times! So when you encounter such a situation, it’s always good to quickly work on removing the stain rather than going frantic with anger. You can remove the stain by first immersing your shirt in lukewarm water. Subsequently rub the stain with detergent. Avoid using bars or soaps as they do more harm than good.

Blood Stains

It’s not uncommon to see bloodstains on your shirts, especially if you happen to be someone involved in a lot of physical activity. But the good thing is that these stains can be removed easily. All you need to do is soak the shirt in cold water for approximately 15 minutes and rub the stained patch with ammonia. You may even use an enzyme cleaner, if available.

Sweat Stains

If there’s a stain that absolutely impossible to avoid, it’s definitely this one! Whether your dress shirts catches other stains or not, it will definitely leave sweat stains. However, you will be relieved to know that these stains are the easiest to remove. Whenever you spot a sweat stain on shirt, rinse it gently with hot water and detergent and allow it to dry. It’s as simple as it gets!

Deodorant Stains

In this day and age, it is quite difficult to find a person who doesn’t use deodorants. Along with fantastic fragrance, it also gives a rejuvenating feeling. Now this also means that the more deodorant you use, the more vulnerable your dress shirts will be to deodorant stains. So here’s what you need to do to get rid of such stains: immerse the shirt in vinegar (white) for about half an hour. Thereafter, wash it with warm water and detergent.

Oil Stains

This, without a shadow of a doubt, is one stain you should stay far from. It can cause potential damage to your shirt, especially if not treated immediately. So if your shirt catches an oil stain (while cooking, working on your car, etc), take it off at once and apply any kind of liquid detergent over the stained area. Another alternative would be to put the stained area in-between a couple of paper towels and then place a hot iron over it.

Ink Stains

Another pesky stain you’ll come across is that of ink. The stronger the ink, the more difficult it will be to remove it. Generally, whenever a dress shirt catches an ink stain, it has to be first rubbed with alcohol and later with detergent. However, if the stain still appears (indicating how the strong the ink is), give it a regular wash and then repeat this process. Another good way to remove such stains is by applying hairspray to it and then wiping it with a dry towel.

Wine Stains

Who doesn’t love drinking wine? Its taste is simply delectable and overwhelming. One just gets lost in its delight and as a result, could spill some of it on the dress shirt. That is why it is important to know how to effectively remove wine stains so that it doesn’t cause damage to your designer shirt. First of all, put salt onto the stained patch, but don’t rub it. After a couple minutes wash it with warm water and allow it to dry.

Ketchup Stains

If you often eat burgers or hotdogs, then you probably come across these types of stains on a regular basis. In case you don’t exactly know how to get it removed, here’s some enlightenment for you! First mix a bit of detergent (preferably a liquid one) and white vinegar in a quarter of warm water. Then pour this mixture over the stained patch and allow it to dry. Once it dries, pour some more detergent over it and then wash it.

Summary

Knowing about the common stains you can get on your dress shirts and the simple ways to remove them is extremely helpful in not only making your shirts look good but also enhance their durability. It is important to take the necessary action in order to get rid of them right away.
